Blog Assignment Nov. 16th

I feel like he is trying to say that even though reason and logic are a big part of our lifes and help us debate and have our own unique thoughts. They are not always the awnser. That even with reason and logic we cannot always have the outcome we want. It makes you think about how else we could reach or desired solution. That there are other things beside logic and reason.

Blog entry questions for week of Sept. 1-5

#1. After reading the first chapter I realized how drastically the film industry has changed since it's beginnings. You see how just after a couple of decades the films go from single frame clips, to 30 minute movies with color and sound. Learning about how people managed to watch these movies, before sound, and fully understand them shows how much effort the creator of the film put into the movie. Even though these films were only 5 minutes they still conveyed a deep message with them. I think that is the coolest thing I've learned so far.

#2. I think movies can be a social benefit because of the strong situations the can display. Like during World War 2 how they used film to show people over in Europe fighting to get others to join the fight. They also have been used in anti-bullying campaigns and have even showed a difference.

First Blog

What are your thoughts on taking the class History Through Film? What do you hope to get out of this class and what strength do you bring to the class that will help us all progress forward as we learn?

I believe that History Through Film will be a great class to take this semester. I feel like I will personally enjoy this class, not just cause we watch movies, but because of the interest I have in the film industry. I also believe that this class is a great elective because of the amount of people that do not know that much about the history behind film, so this class will give insight to those who would not have a class to take.

In this class I hope to walk away with more knowledge of film then I came to the class with. If I can manage to do that by the end of the semester I will feel like this class was worth it. I come to this class with a liking a film, so I feel like this will give me more incentive to do well in this class. This, in my opinion, is one of my strengths for this class. I think that if you do not really care for film that it would be harder to take this class.
